Police Refute Sahara Reporters’ Claim Of Admission List Manipulation At Police Academy

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false and malicious a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, “smuggled names” into the 2025/2026 admission list of the Nigeria Police Academy.

In a strongly worded statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police described the publication as “a barefaced lie and an act of journalistic blackmail” designed to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of the Force and its leadership.

Hundeyin emphasised that the admission process remains transparent, merit-based, and strictly in line with due process, adding that only 370 candidates, ten from each state, were admitted based purely on academic, physical, and character criteria.

While acknowledging that recommendations from well-meaning Nigerians or institutions are customary, the Police stressed that such inputs “do not override merit, nor influence the selection process.”

The Force challenged Sahara Reporters to present a single name on the official list that failed to meet the stipulated requirements, warning that failure to do so would confirm the report as “a baseless fabrication.”

Condemning what it described as a pattern of “targeted misinformation” capable of eroding public trust, the Police cautioned the online outlet to desist from publishing falsehoods or face legal action for defamation.

The statement reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism, asserting that “no amount of blackmail or falsehood will distract the Force from its duty to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the nation.”
