DECAN Honours Oluyede For Strengthening Joint Military Operations
Defence journalists have honoured Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for strengthening cooperation among Nigeria’s military services and promoting a coordinated response to the country’s security challenges.
The award recognises Oluyede’s leadership in improving joint operations involving the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as his emphasis on intelligence sharing, personnel welfare and collaboration among security agencies.
Oluyede received the honour through the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, at the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) Conference and Awards 2026, held on Monday, 12 October, at the Army Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.
Represented by Uba, the CDS urged defence journalists to work with the military to counter misinformation and artificial intelligence-generated fake content that could undermine national security.
He described the conference theme, “Beyond Kinetic Warfare: Harnessing Technology and Intelligence-Led Operations for Nigeria’s National Security,” as timely, noting that modern conflicts increasingly demand technological superiority, reliable intelligence and effective management of information.
Oluyede’s military philosophy emphasises joint planning, coordinated deployment of capabilities and a whole-of-government approach to security, alongside improved troop morale and professional development.
The recognition underscores the growing importance of cooperation between the military and the media in addressing security threats while ensuring the public receives credible information about military operations.
