ECOWAS, AfDB To Turn Regional Integration Into Tangible Benefits For Citizens

The ECOWAS Commission has called for stronger cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to ensure regional integration delivers visible improvements in the lives of West Africans.

Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, made the call during a meeting with the AfDB leadership in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on 12 October 2026.

Ogunjimi, who led an ECOWAS delegation to the Bank’s headquarters, stressed the need to move beyond development plans and commitments to results that citizens can see and feel in their everyday lives.

He outlined the Commission’s management priorities for the next four years, anchored in ECOWAS Vision 2050, and called for deeper collaboration to advance the region’s development agenda.

The meeting, with the Bank’s delegation led by Abdul Kamara, Acting Vice-President for Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery, also reviewed the longstanding partnership between the two institutions and explored ways to strengthen cooperation.

Ogunjimi commended the AfDB for its continued financial and technical support for regional development initiatives, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to making regional integration more meaningful to the people of West Africa.
