NLO Moves Against Clubs Over ‘Unauthorised’ N-Youth League

Clubs risk suspension or expulsion as Nationwide League One begins disciplinary proceedings over participation in an allegedly unauthorised competition.

The Nationwide League One (NLO) has declared the N-Youth League unauthorised for the 2026/2027 season, warning affiliated clubs to withdraw immediately or face sanctions.

The league said the organisers had yet to provide documentary evidence of current approval from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other relevant authorities.

NLO Chief Operating Officer, Dr Olushola Ogunnowo, said clubs must comply with established football regulations, stressing that registration with the league comes with obligations that cannot be ignored.

The NLO cited Article 3:01 (6) of its Rules and Regulations, which prohibits registered clubs and players from participating in private leagues outside the recognised national football structure.

It clarified that any NFF approval granted to the N-Youth League for the 2024/2025 season would not automatically authorise its operation in subsequent seasons.

The league said disciplinary proceedings against affected clubs were under way, with suspension or expulsion possible if breaches are established through the prescribed procedures.

It also urged clubs to verify the status of competitions before accepting invitations and to report suspicious offers to the NLO Secretariat.

The NLO reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of Nigerian football through strict compliance with established rules and regulatory oversight.
