In a moving ceremony that blended grief with gratitude, the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, held a valedictory Mass in honour of its late Bursar, Mr Stephen Udu, whose life of service and integrity left an indelible mark on the institution.
The solemn Mass, held at St. Augustine’s Chaplaincy, drew members of the Polytechnic community, family, and friends who gathered to celebrate a man remembered for his humility, professionalism, and unwavering dedication.
In her tribute, the Rector, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, described Mr Udu as “a pillar of strength and a consummate professional whose warmth and integrity touched everyone he met.”
She noted that the ceremony was not just a farewell, but a celebration of a life lived in service to education and humanity.
Delivering the homily, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Jonas Benson Okoye, reminded attendees of the fleeting nature of life, urging them to live with faith, love, and compassion.
“We are all visitors on earth; the best way to honour the departed is to live with purpose and kindness,” he said.
Dignitaries at the Mass included former Rector Engr. Dr Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo, Governing Council members, and the Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area, Barrister Casmir Nwafor.
The event was filled with emotion, grief for the loss of a devoted administrator and gratitude for the legacy he left behind. Mr Udu was remembered as more than a bursar; he was a mentor, a friend, and a symbol of humility and service whose memory will continue to inspire those he left behind.
