Police Rescue Nine Kidnap Victims, Arrest Suspects, Recover Firearms Across States
Police operatives have rescued nine kidnapped victims and arrested several suspects in separate operations across Benue, Kwara, Enugu, Ekiti, Bauchi, Kaduna, Cross River and Nasarawa states.
In Benue State, eight kidnapped victims were rescued from Omla Forest, Ankpechi Ogobia Community, Ohimini Local Government Area, following a search operation after an attack on a commercial bus.
The victims were evacuated for medical attention, although one of them, 34-year-old Uche Okike, died from gunshot injuries sustained during the attack.
In Kwara, a joint operation involving the police, military and vigilantes led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim who escaped from his abductors and was reunited with his family.
The police also reported that a bandit attack on Bagayawa Village, Wamakko LGA of Sokoto State, during Maulud celebrations left two people dead and two others injured, while an unspecified number of domestic animals were rustled.
Joint patrols are ongoing to apprehend the attackers.
In Enugu, police arrested a wanted armed robbery suspect, Chukwujekwu Chukwuemeka, 38, recovering a cut-to-size pump-action gun and a live cartridge.
Other operations resulted in the arrest of suspected cultists and armed robbery suspects in Ekiti, Kaduna and Cross River states, while a locally made pistol was recovered from another suspect in Ekiti.
In Bauchi, police arrested a 22-year-old man, Audu Babangida, over the alleged killing of Haruna Bala, 25, during a farm-related altercation in Kirfi LGA. A knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered.
Meanwhile, detectives in Nasarawa recovered a 2017 Toyota Corolla allegedly stolen during an armed robbery in Abuja. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments were handling investigations into the incidents.
