ECOWAS Welcomes Dr Kalilou Sylla As New Commissioner For Economic Affairs and Agriculture
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially welcomed Dr Kalilou Sylla as its new Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture.
Dr Sylla, an Ivorian economist, was sworn in on Thursday, 9 October 2025, at a ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The event was presided over by the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, and attended by members of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers during their extraordinary session.
Succeeding Ms Massandjé Touré-Litsé, Dr Sylla will serve until July 2026. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Director General of Foreign Trade at Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.
His expertise spans economic and monetary policy, regional integration, agricultural development, and project financing across both public and private sectors.
A respected economist and researcher, Dr Sylla has published extensively on regional integration, governance, and agricultural economics, reinforcing his reputation as a seasoned technocrat dedicated to West Africa’s economic growth and food security.
