Nigerian Army 8 Division Offers Free Eye Care To Mark World Sight Day 2025

In a demonstration of its commitment to the well-being of troops and their families, the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division has launched a free eye care outreach in commemoration of World Sight Day 2025.

The two-day medical initiative, themed “Love Your Eyes: Access to Eye Care for All,” kicked off on Thursday, 9 October, at the Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai Auditorium, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.

The programme features eye consultations, vision screenings, the provision of medications, and free eyeglasses for personnel and their dependants.

Speaking during the event, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FASSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, represented by Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Mohammed, commended the initiative.

He emphasised that access to quality eye care is vital for operational effectiveness and the overall welfare of military personnel.

The event began with a rally within the cantonment to sensitise participants on the importance of regular eye checks and preventive vision care.

By organising the outreach, the Nigerian Army reinforces its dedication to promoting the health and readiness of its officers and their families, helping to prevent avoidable blindness and build a healthier, more productive force.
