Anambra Journalists Mourn Slain Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu

The League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA) has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of Arise News journalist, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was murdered by suspected armed robbers at her residence on 29 September.

In a statement signed by its Interim President, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, and Interim Secretary, Princess-Ekwi Ajide, the group described Somtochukwu as “a shining light in the newsroom and a passionate voice for truth, justice and accountability.”

LAJA condemned the killing as a “heinous act” and urged the Nigerian government and security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

The body noted that the incident highlights the unsafe conditions under which journalists work in Nigeria and called for stronger measures to protect media professionals.

“Somtochukwu’s light has been cruelly extinguished, but her dedication and courage will continue to inspire us,” the statement read.
