NUJ FCT Seeks Stronger Igbo Unity, Backs Women In Leadership

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, has called for greater unity among Ndi Igbo, urging members of the community to support one another and create more opportunities for women to lead.
Speaking while receiving a courtesy visit from the League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA), Ike expressed appreciation for the association’s support, describing it as a refreshing experience after facing what she termed a lack of solidarity from some members of her ethnic community during her election.
She said the visit reaffirmed the importance of standing by one another irrespective of differences, noting that unity should go beyond cultural gatherings to practical support during critical moments.
The NUJ FCT Chairman also commended colleagues from other parts of the country, particularly northern Nigeria, for the encouragement and cooperation she has received in her leadership journey, stressing that such support should inspire stronger bonds within the Igbo community.
She urged journalists to build lasting legacies through ethical, balanced and accurate reporting while encouraging the Igbo community to promote and celebrate women in leadership positions.
Expressing optimism about future collaboration with LAJA, she said the partnership would help amplify positive narratives, strengthen professional ties and demonstrate that women are capable of providing effective leadership.

They said the association was established to foster unity among journalists of Anambra extraction and ensure members support one another during critical moments.
The members of LAJA expressed confidence that a stronger and more united platform would help counter divisive narratives in the future.
The association extended a hand of fellowship to the NUJ-FCT Chairman, inviting her to its future programmes as both organisations strengthen their collaboration to advance professionalism and solidarity within the media industry.
