NCD Alliance Urges Governments To Boost Investment in NCDs and Mental Health Ahead Of UN Summit

As the world readies for the fourth UN High-Level Meeting (HLM4) on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health later this month, the NCD Alliance has sounded a fresh call for urgent government action to address what remains one of the most underfunded global health priorities.

Launching a new benchmark report, Delivering on Health and Financial Protection for All, the Alliance highlights the staggering toll of NCDs, including mental health and neurological conditions, which claim 43 million lives annually.

The report sets out how much countries must invest and offers strategies to stretch limited budgets further, with access to medicines identified as the greatest barrier to expanding care.

To present its findings and recommendations, the NCD Alliance will host a global media telebriefing on Tuesday, 10 September, from 15:00–16:00 CEST (09:00–10:00 EDT) via Zoom, with interpretation in English, Spanish, and French.

Speakers will include Dr David Watkins of the University of Washington, lead author of the report; Alison Cox, the Alliance’s Policy and Advocacy Director; and Nupur Lalvani of the Our Views, Our Voices Global Advisory Committee.

The session will be moderated by NCD Alliance CEO, Katie Dain.

The report aims to shape budget allocations and strengthen financial protection schemes, key to achieving universal health coverage (UHC) worldwide.
