Defence Headquarters Denies Alleged Establishment of French Military Base in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters has strongly refuted reports circulating online that French soldiers have arrived in Maiduguri to establish a military base in North East Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the military described the information as “fake, totally false, and mischievous.”
The clarification follows claims in some online platforms suggesting the presence of a French contingent in Maiduguri.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria emphasised that these speculations have no basis in truth.
Recalling recent comments by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa CFR, the Defence Headquarters reiterated that such claims had already been debunked across multiple media engagements.
It therefore, urged the general public to disregard these reports and speculations still making rounds in some quarters, adding that such narratives are the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to mislead Nigerians.
The Armed Forces further reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and carrying out their constitutional duties with the highest level of professionalism.
The Defence Headquarters called on the public to remain vigilant and discerning, urging the dissemination of accurate information to counter the spread of false narratives.
