Troops Crush Lakurawa Cell In Kebbi, Recover PKT Gun, AK-47
Sustained intelligence and patient tracking are proving critical in efforts to disrupt terrorist networks in the North-West, with troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA recording another success in Kebbi State.
Troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an encounter in Kangiwa Local Government Area after days of surveillance and tracking.
The troops made contact with the group at a location in the area, leading to an engagement in which several terrorists were neutralised.
The troops subsequently recovered a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, rifle magazines and several bandoliers of ammunition.
Four motorcycles, a large sum of money and three mobile handsets were also recovered.
The seizure of the weapons and motorcycles is significant as security forces intensify efforts to disrupt the movement, logistics and operational capacity of Lakurawa elements across the Operation FANSAN YAMMA Joint Operations Area.
The military said troops would sustain clearance and interdiction operations against terrorist and criminal elements in affected communities.
