In a month marked by intensified security operations, Nigeria’s military says it has delivered one of its most decisive blows against terrorism and criminal networks in recent times.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) revealed that troops operating across seven theatres nationwide neutralised 201 terrorists, rescued 188 kidnapped civilians, and arrested 284 suspects in April 2026, underscoring a renewed push to reclaim communities from violent groups.
According to the Defence Headquarters, coordinated ground and air offensives targeted insurgent strongholds, dismantled logistics networks, and disrupted supply chains, particularly in the North East under Operation HADIN KAI, where troops eliminated dozens of fighters and thwarted major attacks in Borno and Yobe States.
In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded significant successes, including the rescue of kidnapped worshippers and the interception of explosive materials allegedly destined for Abuja.
Meanwhile, operations in the North Central region led to the destruction of terrorist camps and the rescue of dozens of victims, reinforcing the military’s presence in previously vulnerable communities.
The South-South and South-East theatres also saw targeted operations against criminal networks and separatist elements, with troops dismantling illegal refining sites, arresting key suspects, and destroying enclaves linked to armed groups.
Beyond combat, the military emphasised its civil-military cooperation efforts, including peace-building engagements and community support initiatives aimed at fostering long-term stability.
While celebrating the operational gains, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to fallen officers and soldiers, reaffirming the military’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting civilians.
The AFN urged citizens to continue supporting security efforts through credible intelligence, stressing that national peace remains a shared responsibility.
