Army, Police Launch Rescue Operation For Six Imams Abducted In Zamfara
The abduction of six Islamic clerics in Zamfara has triggered a joint security operation, with the Nigerian Army and Police deploying personnel to track the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
The Imams were reportedly travelling to Talata Mafara when armed bandits ambushed their vehicle along the Dakko-Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, 12 September.
The attackers, reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons, intercepted the vehicle and abducted the six clerics.
The 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said its troops were working with other security agencies and local intelligence networks to locate the victims.
The Zamfara State Police Command said the Divisional Police Officer for Bakura immediately mobilised personnel, including operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit, alongside other security agencies.
The team has since commenced searches of surrounding bushes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP A. M. Bello, directed the operatives to deploy all available resources towards securing the safe release of the Imams and arresting those responsible.
The command urged residents to provide credible and timely information that could help security agencies locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
