Military Tightens Grip On Oil Theft, IPOB Cells As Nationwide Crackdown Intensifies
Beyond the battlefield, Nigeria’s military says it is increasingly targeting the financial lifelines and logistics networks that sustain terrorism, kidnapping and organised crime across the country.
Presenting its June and second-quarter operational report, the Defence Headquarters revealed that troops dismantled 12 illegal refining sites, recovered more than 464,000 litres of stolen petroleum products and disrupted arms trafficking networks.
Security forces also carried out successful operations against suspected IPOB/ESN cells, recovering sophisticated weapons, explosives and military-style equipment in the South East.
The military said coordinated land and air operations also resulted in the arrest of key terrorist collaborators, the rescue of hundreds of kidnap victims and the destruction of criminal infrastructure across multiple theatres of operation.
The Chief of Defence Staff appealed to Nigerians to sustain intelligence-sharing, describing public cooperation as vital to defeating insecurity and restoring lasting peace.
