Security Alert: U.S. Warns Of Possible Terrorist Plot Targeting American Facilities In Nigeria

Rising global security concerns and the growing threat of transnational terrorism have once again placed diplomatic facilities under heightened watch in Nigeria.

The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a security alert warning of a potential terrorist threat targeting American diplomatic facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools across the country.

In the advisory released on Monday, the embassy urged U.S. citizens in Nigeria to exercise increased caution, particularly when visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and institutions connected to the United States.

According to the notice, Americans should adopt additional safety measures including varying travel routes and schedules, avoiding predictable routines, and remaining vigilant in public spaces.

The embassy also advised individuals to keep a low profile, stay away from crowds and demonstrations, and regularly review personal security plans with family members.

Practical precautions recommended include keeping mobile phones fully charged in case of emergencies and identifying emergency exits when entering public buildings.

Despite the warning, the embassy confirmed that consular services at both the Abuja embassy and the Lagos consulate will continue to operate as scheduled.

U.S. citizens were further encouraged to monitor updates through official channels and consult the Nigeria country information page on the U.S. Department of State travel website for the latest security guidance.
