FG: Tinubu Delivering On Development Promises To South-East – Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is delivering on his pledges to the South-East with bold reforms, major infrastructure projects, and targeted investments across the region.

Speaking at a Citizens’ Engagement Forum in Abakaliki, Idris said the administration is “right on track” to transform Ebonyi State and the wider South-East, citing key projects such as the completed Port Harcourt–Aba railway, the $3 billion Eastern Rail Line revival, and the upgrade of Eastern Port facilities.

He noted that subsidy removal has doubled state allocations, fuelling “an unprecedented explosion of infrastructure projects across most states.”

In Ebonyi, 118km of the Calabar–Abuja Super Highway has been inaugurated, while new cancer centres at the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, and UNTH Nsukka are expanding healthcare access.

On the economy, the Minister highlighted N200 billion in support for over 900,000 small businesses and the establishment of the South-East Development Commission, tasked with building a $200bn regional economy by 2035.

Idris also assured residents that security gains are being recorded, with secessionist sit-at-home orders “rendered ineffective.”

He praised Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru for aligning with federal initiatives, saying the synergy is delivering “real dividends of democracy.”

President Tinubu, he added, remains committed to building a $1 trillion economy, bridging the infrastructure gap, ensuring food security, and improving livelihoods nationwide.
