₦1.5tn Highway Project To Boost Niger State’s Agriculture, Trade – Idris
A ₦1.5 trillion federal highway project is expected to improve access to farms, markets and commercial centres in Niger State, strengthening the state’s agricultural and economic prospects.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance on Friday in Abuja while commending Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s development drive.
Idris, who chairs the Niger State Development Forum, described the planned reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora highway as a major boost to economic activities.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 13 October in Bida.
He also praised Bago’s investments in mechanised farming, infrastructure, urban renewal and agro-industrial development, stressing the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments.
Bago, in response, thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting Niger State, saying the highway project would ease the movement of goods and people, improve agricultural trade and create opportunities for businesses.
Idris also expressed condolences to communities affected by recent tragedies and security challenges in the state.
