The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has pledged continued welfare and educational support for the families of personnel killed in the recent ATR 42 aircraft accident, assuring them they will not be abandoned as the Service continues search, recovery and investigative operations.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, gave the assurance on Thursday, 8 October, during a visit to 107 Air Maritime Group (AMG), NAF Base, Benin City, the home unit of the ill-fated aircraft.

Aneke expressed condolences to the unit over the loss of its personnel, describing the deceased as patriots who served Nigeria with honour and dedication.

He reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting the affected families through emotional, administrative and institutional assistance, including scholarship awards for the children of the deceased.

The CAS also promised measures to strengthen 107 AMG through improved personnel welfare, sustained training and the provision of operational platforms, urging officers and airmen to remain professional and resilient.

The unit’s Commander, Air Commodore Onu, thanked Aneke for the visit, saying his presence had boosted personnel morale and reinforced confidence in the Service’s leadership.

Aneke also commended the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies for their support in the ongoing search and recovery operations, stressing the importance of inter-service cooperation.

He assured affected families that the NAF would continue to stand by them while pursuing a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
