FG Sets Up Collective Bargaining Committee For Health Sector

The Federal Government has inaugurated a Collective Bargaining Committee to engage major health unions on pay, welfare and working conditions.

The ceremony, held in Abuja on Friday, was led by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, alongside the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako.

Prof. Pate described the move as “a milestone towards building a fair and sustainable framework for our health workforce,” stressing that health workers are central to delivering quality care.

Dingyadi said the negotiations would provide “a pathway to industrial peace and sectoral stability,” while Salako noted that the talks were part of Nigeria’s broader health reform agenda.

Talks will involve the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), among others.
