ECOWAS Moves To Fast-Track Key West African Infrastructure Projects
In a fresh push to deepen regional integration and connectivity, a high-level ECOWAS delegation has visited Senegal to accelerate the implementation of two major infrastructure projects: the first phase of the Dakar–Bamako railway line and the Praia–Dakar–Abidjan multimodal corridor.
Led by Honourable Sediko Douka, ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation, the mission held strategic consultations in Dakar from 3rd to 4th July 2025.
The team included Mr Chris Appiah, Director of Transport, and Mr Kebba Fye, Acting Director of the ECOWAS Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU).
During a key meeting with Senegal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Aviation, Honourable Yankhoba Diémé, the ECOWAS Commissioner reaffirmed the Commission’s strong commitment to supporting member states in delivering priority infrastructure projects that enhance service delivery and regional trade.
Minister Diémé, in turn, highlighted Senegal’s determination to kickstart the long-awaited modernisation of the Dakar–Bamako railway, starting with the crucial Dakar–Tambacounda segment.
Both sides also discussed plans to drive forward the Praia–Dakar–Abidjan corridor — a major trans-West African transport route.
The mission signals renewed political will across the region to boost economic integration through efficient, cross-border infrastructure.
