IGP Disu Seeks Stronger Police-Judiciary Partnership To Drive Criminal Justice Reform
A stronger Police-Judiciary partnership is emerging as Nigeria intensifies efforts to reform its criminal justice system, with both institutions seeking closer cooperation to improve investigations, prosecutions and the timely delivery of justice.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to strengthen Nigeria’s criminal justice system and improve the administration of justice.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday, the IGP described the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in upholding the rule of law and ensuring effective criminal justice delivery.
Disu commended the Judiciary’s leadership in promoting judicial integrity and constitutional governance, stressing the need for sustained cooperation to enhance investigations, bolster prosecution support and ensure the speedy dispensation of justice.
He also highlighted the importance of fully implementing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws to reduce delays in criminal proceedings.
The IGP further outlined the Force’s investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing and digital investigation capabilities, expressing optimism that greater collaboration with the Judiciary in technology adoption and capacity-building would further strengthen justice delivery.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Judiciary and other stakeholders to promote the rule of law, improve public confidence and build a safer and more secure society.
