Police Launch App To Let Nigerians Track, Report Financial Fraud
Reporting a financial scam to the police may soon become less cumbersome, with the Nigeria Police Force launching a new digital platform that allows victims and members of the public to report suspected fraud, upload evidence and track their complaints.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, unveiled the NPF Vigilant App in Abuja on Tuesday alongside a dedicated MTN communication network for police personnel nationwide.
The Vigilant App is designed to give the public a direct channel for reporting suspected financial crimes, while enabling the police and relevant financial institutions to coordinate responses and provide feedback on reported cases.
For police officers, the new NPF-MTN Closed User Group network is expected to improve secure communication, emergency coordination and operational response between commands and units.
Disu said the initiatives were part of the Force’s digital-transformation drive, but stressed that technology must be used lawfully and responsibly, with safeguards for citizens’ privacy, data protection and accountability.
The Force urged Nigerians to download the Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.
