Troops Foil Terrorist Ambush In Borno, Kill Three As Two ISWAP Fighters Surrender
An attempted terrorist ambush on a key supply route in Borno has been repelled, while two suspected ISWAP fighters have surrendered with weapons, developments that point to growing pressure on insurgents in the North-East.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI on Tuesday fought off an ambush along the Miyanti, Banki Junction axis in Bama Local Government Area after terrorists detonated an IED and opened fire on a military convoy.
The troops of 151 Task Force Battalion fought through the attack and killed three terrorists. They recovered an AK-47 rifle, magazine, 14 rounds of ammunition and another IED.
One soldier was wounded and evacuated for treatment, while a gun truck sustained minor damage.
In a separate development in Monguno, two suspected ISWAP members surrendered to troops of Sector 3, handing over two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and eight rounds of ammunition.
The pair reportedly belonged to a group of 10 fighters who left an ISWAP camp at Arinna Chiki intending to surrender.
They were, however, intercepted by an ISWAP patrol, triggering a gunfight. The whereabouts of the remaining eight are unknown.
The military said troops have intensified efforts to locate them as investigations continue.
The latest operations underscore the sustained offensive by Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt terrorist movements and supply routes, while creating opportunities for fighters willing to abandon insurgency to surrender.
