TCN Takes Anti-Vandalism Campaign To Ogun Community, Records Sharp Drop In Attacks On Power Infrastructure
With rising concerns over attacks on critical national assets, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says intensified community engagement and improved security collaboration are helping to reduce vandalism of power infrastructure across the country.
TCN’s Lagos Region disclosed this during a sensitisation programme held in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, where residents, traditional rulers, security agencies and community leaders were educated on the dangers of vandalising transmission towers and encroaching on transmission line Right of Way.
Speaking at the event, General Manager, Transmission, Lagos Region, Engr. Adeshina Adeonipekun, revealed that the company recorded 276 cases of tower vandalism between 2022 and 2025.
He, however, noted that the figure had dropped significantly in 2026 due to stronger cooperation from host communities and proactive measures by TCN personnel.
According to him, the company has continued to strengthen surveillance and public awareness campaigns to protect critical power infrastructure.
Also speaking, Principal Manager (Lines), Engr. Kuye Emmanuel, explained that TCN now engages community vigilantes across various zones to safeguard transmission facilities, while also encouraging residents and farmers to report suspicious activities.
The Olu of Itori Land, His Royal Highness Oba Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo, commended TCN for sustaining the awareness initiative and urged the company to make the programme an annual exercise.
Security agencies at the event also warned residents against aiding vandals. The District Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Itori Command, Mrs. Olusola Balogun, stressed that vandalism remains a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment.
Similarly, the Divisional Police Officer of Itori Police Station, CSP Dapo Ojekunle, urged residents to support security agencies with timely information capable of preventing attacks on electricity infrastructure.
