IGP Disu Orders Intensified Rescue Operations After Niger Worshippers’ Abduction
The search for abducted worshippers in Niger State has moved into a more intensive phase, with Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering security forces to strengthen intelligence-led operations aimed at securing their safe release.
Disu gave the directive on Saturday during a working visit to the state to assess the security situation following the attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area.
At the Niger State Government House, where he was received by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, the IGP expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured the state government that rescuing the abductees and apprehending those behind the attack remained a priority.
He commended the state Police Command for its response and acknowledged the government’s support, including operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers and welfare assistance for officers.
Addressing police personnel, Disu called for stronger intelligence gathering, inter-agency cooperation and community engagement, particularly with traditional, religious and community leaders.
He later met the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, to reinforce traditional institutions’ role in intelligence sharing and efforts to restore peace across the state.
The Police Force said it remained committed to rescuing the victims, protecting affected communities and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
