DSS Seeks Adjournment Of Sowore Cybercrime Case Until After 2027 Presidential Election
The legal battle between the Department of State Services (DSS) and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, may take a back seat to the 2027 presidential election.
The DSS has directed its counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, to seek an adjournment of the alleged cyber-bullying case against Sowore until after the 16 January 2027 presidential election.
The case followed Sowore’s August 25, 2025 posts on X and Facebook in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal”.
The DSS subsequently gave him seven days to remove the posts before approaching the Federal High Court for judicial interpretation.
According to a source close to the DSS legal team, Director-General Tosin Ajayi met with Kehinde and senior officers of the agency’s legal directorate on August 20 to consider suspending the case so Sowore could participate fully in the election.
The source said the DSS chief considered it fair to avoid any legal proceedings that could hinder Sowore’s campaign, noting that the case had already been in court for almost a year.
Kehinde, SAN, confirmed the development, saying the decision reflected the “civilised approach” of the current DSS leadership towards ensuring a level playing field for all contestants.
“We will seek the indulgence of the court for the adjournment,” he said.
The DSS is also reviewing other cases involving political contestants, according to the source.
