Family Survives CNG Truck Crash, Abuja Resident Seeks Police Probe
A road crash that could have ended in tragedy has now become the subject of a police petition, with an Abuja resident alleging threats to his life and demanding a deeper investigation into the incident.
Tochi Maduba Ejiofor, in a petition to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, alleged that a CNG gas truck rammed into his Honda Accord while he, his wife and three children were waiting at an Army checkpoint in Kogi State on 1 August 2026.
According to the petition, the family was returning to Abuja from Anambra State when the truck, which he identified as belonging to Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd (SEEPCO), struck their car from behind, crushing it and throwing it into the bush.
Ejiofor said the impact trapped the entire family inside the vehicle until passers-by rescued them.
He further alleged that laptops, phones, cash, luggage and other valuables were damaged or stolen at the scene, while the family incurred expenses on towing and emergency medical treatment.
The petitioner said both vehicles were subsequently taken to Orakam Police Station, Benue State, for investigation.
He is now asking the police authorities to transfer the case from Orakam Police Station to the FCID in Abuja, citing alleged threats to his life and those of his wife and children, as well as alleged criminal conspiracy and damage to property.
The petition was dated 19 August and bears an FCID receiving stamp dated 20 August 2026.
