Tinubu Picks Power Reforms Expert Joseph Tegbe To Lead Nigeria’s Troubled Electricity Sector

In a move seen as a fresh push to revive Nigeria’s struggling power sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated fiscal and governance expert, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, as the new Minister of Power.

The nomination, already forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, follows the resignation of former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who left office to pursue elective ambitions.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience across public and private sectors, with a strong background in economic reforms, governance, and institutional transformation.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major fiscal policy and regulatory reform initiatives.

Currently serving as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Tegbe has also played strategic roles in Nigeria’s power sector reforms, particularly with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

The Presidency said his nomination is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to improve grid stability, drive reforms, and attract sustainable investments into the sector in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
