With political activities gathering pace ahead of crucial off-cycle polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed June 20, 2026, for a series of bye-elections across six states.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, announced the date during the swearing-in of newly appointed National Commissioner, Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (rtd.), at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The bye-elections will be held alongside the Ekiti State governorship election and will cover vacant senatorial seats in Enugu, Nasarawa, Rivers and Ondo states, as well as legislative seats in Kebbi and Kano.
Amupitan assured Nigerians of the Commission’s preparedness to conduct credible and transparent elections, while Malafa pledged to support INEC’s mandate and contribute to successful polls nationwide.
