Army Busts Drug Supply Line To Boko Haram In Borno, Arrests 65-Year-Old Suspect

In counter-insurgency operations, it is often the quiet disruption of supply chains, not just battlefield encounters, that delivers the most strategic blows to terror networks.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded a major breakthrough in Borno State with the arrest of a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, alleged to be a key supplier of illicit drugs to Boko Haram elements operating across several communities in Askira Uba Local Government Area.

The arrest was carried out on 23 January 2026 following actionable intelligence under Operation Desert Sanity V. Military sources said the suspect allegedly supplied cannabis sativa to terrorist elements operating in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya, helping to sustain criminal and insurgent activities in the area.

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing about 30 kilogrammes, believed to have been transported from Sarti Baruwa in Taraba State through established trafficking routes.

The suspect is currently in custody, while further investigations are underway to dismantle the wider drug trafficking and logistics network linked to insurgent operations in the North East.

Security experts say cutting off drug and logistics pipelines weakens terror groups financially and operationally, helping to stabilise affected communities and restore lawful authority across the region.
