NAF Strikes Hard In Borno, Wipes Out Terrorist Cells In Azir and Musarram
As insurgents continue to test Nigeria’s security architecture, the skies above the North-East remain a decisive battlefield, and the Nigerian Air Force is making every strike count.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has delivered crushing air strikes against terrorist elements in Azir and Musarram areas of Borno State, neutralising several insurgents and foiling planned attacks through well-coordinated air and ground operations.
In the early hours of 16 January 2026, NAF jets operating under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided swift Close Air Support to troops engaged in combat at Azir.
Acting on real-time intelligence, pilots spotted terrorists attempting to regroup under tree cover after an exchange with ground forces and struck them in successive passes.
Post-strike assessments, backed by feedback from troops, local authorities, and community sources, confirmed multiple neutralisations and a return to relative calm.
A day earlier, on 15 January, NAF aircraft conducted a precision interdiction mission in Musarram within the Tumbuns area after intelligence revealed that over 40 terrorists were massing in about 10 canoes to attack the Baga and Fish Dam axis.
The aircraft engaged the targets in three waves, scattering the insurgents before tracking and eliminating fleeing elements.
Ground reports later confirmed that the operation dismantled the terrorist gathering and disrupted their plans.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, hailed the missions as evidence of the NAF’s readiness and resolve.
He pledged continued intelligence-driven air operations and seamless coordination with ground troops to prevent terrorists from regrouping or launching attacks.
The strikes further underline the growing effectiveness of integrated air and ground warfare in degrading insurgent capabilities across the Lake Chad basin.
