NAF Steps Up Airpower Drive As AWDC Commandant Assesses Operations In North East

In a conflict where air superiority often determines ground success, the Nigerian Air Force is sharpening its edge to sustain pressure on insurgents in the North East.

This resolve came to the fore as the Commandant of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, undertook an operational assessment visit to Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri.

The visit, according to the NAF, was part of ongoing efforts to enhance airpower capabilities and deepen joint force integration within the North East theatre.

Air Vice Marshal Jibia explained that the engagement allowed him to interface directly with aircrew deployed under Operation HADIN KAI, while also paying a courtesy visit to the Theatre Commander following his recent assumption of duty as Commandant AWDC.

He noted that the visit aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff’s philosophy, which places strong emphasis on deliberate training and mission-oriented force development as critical pillars for building a more effective and responsive Air Force.

Stressing the importance of airmindedness, the AWDC Commandant said the Service is intensifying synergy, joint training and integrated operations to sustain a professional and combat-ready force.

Air Vice Marshal Jibia commended the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, describing him as a mentor and praising the remarkable successes recorded by troops under Operation HADIN KAI.

He also applauded the gallantry and resilience of personnel working to restore peace and stability in the region, assuring them of continued support from the Armed Forces and well-meaning Nigerians.

In his response, Major General Abubakar congratulated Air Vice Marshal Jibia on his promotion and appointment, describing him as a seasoned pilot whose experience would further strengthen joint operations in the theatre.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to embrace AWDC’s innovative ideas on joint training and exercises to enhance operational effectiveness.

The visit featured operational briefings, interactive sessions, exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, and was attended by senior commanders and principal staff officers of the Theatre Command.
