Philanthropy Paves The Way As Ozocha, Anataogu Foundations Transform Nawgu’s Road Network
Community-driven development is taking centre stage in Anambra State as private philanthropy steps in to bridge critical infrastructure gaps.
Two prominent sons of the Nawgu community in the Dunukofia Local Government Area, Ichie Ik. Cosmas Okeke and Arc. Jude James Anataogu, have commenced major road construction projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting socio-economic activities in the area.
Through the Ozocha Foundation, Ichie Okeke, a US-based pharmacist, in partnership with the Dunukofia Local Government Council, is constructing the Ebe-Aro-Ali Uno Road for ₦225 million.
The project, which includes a concrete bridge across the Ali Uno stream, is expected to ease movement, open up Obunagu farmlands, and enhance the transportation of agricultural produce.
In a similar intervention, the Anataogu Foundation has flagged off the construction of a one-kilometre road in Ollor village. Valued at ₦85 million, the road will feature standard drainage and asphalt finishing, and is expected to be completed within 100 days.
Community leaders hailed the projects as timely and complementary to ongoing state government efforts, particularly the Ukpo-Nawgu-Isu-Aniocha road being constructed by the Soludo administration.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Arc. Anataogu said the initiative was driven by the desire to improve internal road connectivity, adding that more development projects, including scholarships and empowerment programmes, would be rolled out for the community.
Traditional ruler of Nawgu, Igwe George Okaa Onwuogu, commended the philanthropists for their commitment to community development and announced plans to honour Arc. Anataogu with a chieftaincy title.
Residents say the projects mark a major boost for Nawgu’s economic and infrastructural growth.
