Anambra Clinches South East Health Milestone, Secures $400,000 BHCPF Boost
Anambra State’s health reforms are gaining regional recognition as the state clinches a strong second-place ranking in the South East under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, described the achievement as a clear reflection of the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.
Anambra earned the ranking following its performance in the BHCPF Structures and Services assessment, excelling particularly under Indicator 7, while also recording impressive results in Indicator 11, which measures the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies in public facilities.
Dr Obidike said the outcome aligns with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision of building an efficient, resilient and people-centred healthcare system.
He noted that the recognition highlights the dedication and accountability of healthcare workers, implementing agencies and development partners.
As part of the achievement, Anambra received a $400,000 BHCPF grant, which the commissioner said would be deployed to strengthen primary healthcare services, improve service delivery and expand access to quality care, especially in rural and underserved communities.
He commended health workers and stakeholders for their contributions, reaffirming the state’s resolve to provide accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare for all Ndi Anambra.
