Army Signals Commander Urges Protection Of Communication Assets In Fight Against Terrorism
In modern warfare, battles are won on the ground and through secure and reliable communication.
Recognising this, the Commander Corps of Signals, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, has stressed the need to safeguard critical communication infrastructures to strengthen Nigeria’s counter-insurgency operations in the North East.
On Saturday, 27 September 2025, Major General Ugbo paid an operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).
The visit, in line with directives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, focused on reviewing the installation, maintenance and protection of communication systems vital to coordination and command in the theatre.
He urged commanders to prioritise the protection of installed ICT facilities and equipment, describing them as indispensable assets in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
“These infrastructures are the backbone of our operations,” he said, assuring the Corps’ continued support in delivering innovative communication solutions.
Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, lauded the initiative, noting that effective communication remains central to operational success.
He pledged that all critical facilities would be protected to guarantee efficiency and sustain regional security.
During the visit, Commander 57 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Nelson Okafor, briefed the CCS on strides made in deploying ICT and communication assets across the theatre, which he said had significantly improved command and control functions.
Highlights of the visit included operational briefs, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs with senior commanders of OPHK.
