Hunger Strike Highlights Apathy Over Voter Registration In South-East
In a country where voter apathy often threatens the strength of democracy, one man has chosen to put his health on the line to awaken the conscience of both citizens and government.
Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme has continued his 14-day self-imposed hunger strike, protesting what he described as the alarmingly low turnout for the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in the South-East.
Speaking in a weakened state, Ezekwueme admitted he was “weak and devastated” by what he sees as the indifference of government and Nigerians to the issue.
> “It’s ongoing. I’m weak and devastated as the government and Nigerians felt unconcerned. I will continue until there is a positive response in that regard,” he said.
Ezekwueme maintains that his action is a personal sacrifice and a call to action, urging citizens to embrace voter registration as a civic duty and a crucial step towards shaping Nigeria’s future.
