ECOWAS Commends Sierra Leone For Facilitating Ernest Bai Koroma’s Return

The return of former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma marks a significant step towards easing political tensions and advancing national reconciliation in the West African country.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has commended President Julius Maada Bio’s government for facilitating Koroma’s return to Sierra Leone after charges against the former leader were dropped in the interest of national unity, reconciliation and lasting peace.

The regional bloc also acknowledged the role of ECOWAS leaders in securing the former president’s safe return, with particular recognition for Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for hosting Koroma and supporting efforts that paved the way for his return.

ECOWAS said the development demonstrated the value of dialogue and political engagement in resolving tensions and strengthening stability within the region.

The Commission expressed hope that Koroma’s return would further contribute to peace, unity and reconciliation in Sierra Leone.
