Military Pension Boss Pledges Faster Payments To Retirees

Military retirees and families of fallen soldiers could face fewer delays in accessing their entitlements as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Major General Julius Ehioze Osifo, pledges faster and less cumbersome payments.

Osifo gave the assurance on Wednesday, 21 October, after assuming office, promising to prioritise the prompt payment of pensions, gratuities, arrears and death benefits.

He said his administration would deploy modern technology, reduce bureaucracy and work with the military services to identify eligible beneficiaries early, while ensuring that payments reach only rightful recipients.

“Under my watch as Chairman, MPB, our veterans and family members of deceased personnel will have cause to smile,” he said.

Osifo also pledged to strengthen staff capacity through practical training and uphold professional standards to improve service delivery.

He said the welfare of Board personnel would remain a priority, stressing that motivated staff were essential to achieving the Board’s objectives.

The new chairman previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation and Deputy Director of Accounts at the Military Pensions Board in 2018.

He holds a PhD in Finance and has held several military finance and administrative positions, including appointments at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration and the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre.

Osifo acknowledged the work of his predecessors and urged military and civilian personnel to work together to improve pension administration.

He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Minister of Defence for their support, pledging to justify the confidence placed in him.

His administration faces the task of translating its promise of faster, simpler pension payments into tangible improvements for retired service personnel and the families of deceased military officers and soldiers.
