Police Arrest 65 Suspects, Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Firearms In Nationwide Crackdown
The police have stepped up operations across several states, arresting scores of suspected criminals, recovering firearms and stolen property, and rescuing a kidnapped victim in a series of operations carried out between September 5 and 7.
In Katsina, police operatives engaged armed bandits who invaded Gidan Rago and Unguwar Malam Garba villages in Kafur Local Government Area.
The operation led to the rescue of Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, one of the abducted victims.
He was injured in the right hand and taken to General Hospital, Kafur, for treatment.
Police also reported significant arrests and recoveries in Kogi, Nasarawa and Akwa Ibom, including an AK-47 rifle, locally made guns and live ammunition.
In Anambra, 11 suspects were arrested during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Ngozika Estate, Awka.
Police said large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, mobile phones, ATM cards and cash were recovered.
Meanwhile, 30 suspects were arrested in Sokoto after police dispersed a violent protest in Kanwuri Area of the metropolis, restoring normalcy without reported deaths or injuries.
In Plateau, a 35-year-old suspect was arrested after the body of a 65-year-old man was found on his farm in Qua’an-Pan LGA.
Police recovered a blood-stained machete and an empty 7.62mm ammunition shell.
Other operations recorded the recovery of suspected stolen cattle in Benue, stolen armoured cables in Ogun, and government property allegedly stolen from a secondary school in FCT.
Police in Ogun also rescued a 14-year-old girl following a reported sexual assault and took her to General Hospital, Imeko, for medical examination and treatment.
The various cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments and the FCT Police Command.
