Troops Overrun Terrorist Enclaves, Seize Heavy Weapons In Sokoto

Terrorist hideouts in parts of Sokoto State have come under renewed military pressure, with troops forcing fighters out of their positions and recovering a cache of high-calibre weapons and ammunition.

Troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, conducted clearance operations around Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages and the Magarya forest axis in Tangaza Local Government Area.

The troops encountered the terrorists in the forest and, according to the military, overwhelmed them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.

A subsequent search uncovered a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, large quantities of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and other logistics reportedly left behind by the fleeing fighters.

The military said the operation is aimed at denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and disrupting their ability to operate around vulnerable communities.

Troops have since maintained patrols and surveillance in the area to consolidate the gains and prevent the terrorists from re-establishing their foothold.
