Tinubu Reinstates Suspended Permanent Secretary Danjuma

A suspended permanent secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance has been cleared to return to duty after President Bola Tinubu approved the lifting of his suspension, ending a two-month period away from office.

M.S. Danjuma, Permanent Secretary, Finance (Special Duties), will resume his official responsibilities with effect from 21 October 2026, following a presidential directive conveyed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel.

The approval was communicated in a letter signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel, dated 22 October 2026, with reference number HCSF/3023/Vol.III/124.

Danjuma was suspended on 21 August 2026 alongside two other permanent secretaries following a report by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The report concerned the activities of a purported agency known as the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, allegedly promoted by George Buchi Nwabueze, with the suspected active involvement of public servants in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

The government said the suspension had been lifted following due diligence, although the announcement did not provide further details of the review or clarify the status of the other two suspended permanent secretaries.

President Tinubu directed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to recall Danjuma and reinstate him in office with immediate effect.

He is expected to resume his duties in line with the extant Public Service Rules, applicable regulations and ethical standards governing the Federal Civil Service.

The reinstatement marks a significant development in the government’s response to the allegations surrounding the purported project office.

Circumstances and findings that informed the decision to lift Danjuma’s suspension were however not detailed in the announcement.
