Eid Beyond Celebration: NUJ FCT Chairman Urges Journalists To Champion Unity, Compassion

As Nigeria marks another Eid-el-Fitr, the call to sustain the deeper lessons of Ramadan, beyond the festivities, has taken centre stage, with a strong appeal to journalists to lead by example.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has congratulated Muslim faithful in the Federal Capital Territory on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, describing the period as one of profound spiritual renewal, discipline, and service to humanity.

In a statement, Ike commended the dedication and sacrifices demonstrated during the fasting period, noting that the values of patience, tolerance, compassion, and generosity remain essential for fostering peaceful coexistence and national unity.

She urged Muslim journalists and indeed all media professionals to sustain these virtues in their daily engagements, emphasising the critical role of the media in shaping narratives that promote harmony and collective progress.

The NUJ FCT Chairman also called on Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds, to embrace unity and mutual respect, stressing that the country’s diversity should be harnessed as a strength for development.

Highlighting the spirit of Eid as one of sharing, Ike encouraged citizens to extend kindness to the less privileged, reminding them that the season is as much about empathy as it is about celebration.

She further challenged leaders at all levels to reflect the principles of sacrifice and service in governance by promoting inclusiveness, accountability, and the well-being of citizens.

While wishing Muslims a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Ike also advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and in line with public safety guidelines.
