AFCON 2025: National Assembly Urges Super Eagles To Stay Focused Ahead Of Round Of 16

With the knockout stage in sight and expectations rising, Nigeria’s lawmakers have thrown their weight behind the Super Eagles, urging discipline, focus and resilience as the Africa Cup of Nations enters a decisive phase.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has charged the Super Eagles to remain mentally, psychologically and physically prepared ahead of their Round of 16 encounter at the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Nigeria secured early qualification for the knockout stage after a pulsating 3-2 victory over Tunisia in their second group match on Saturday, becoming the second team at the tournament to book a place in the Round of 16.

Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman handed the Super Eagles control of the match, despite a late Tunisian fightback that tested Nigeria’s resolve.

Reacting to the achievement on behalf of the Committee Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Jajere, praised the team’s composure and ability to withstand pressure at crucial moments.

He advised the technical crew to use the final group game against Uganda, now a dead rubber, to rotate the squad and manage player fitness, while keeping focus firmly on the ultimate prize.

“The team must not lose sight of the goal of lifting the trophy,” Jajere stressed, reassuring the players of the full backing of the Federal Government and the National Assembly.

Nigeria, three-time African champions, currently sit top of their group with six points from two matches, as optimism continues to build around the team’s title credentials.
