DSS Warns Public Against Fraudster Impersonating Dismissed Officer
The Department of State Services (DSS) has alerted the public to the activities of one Barry Donald, a former staff member of the Service, who is allegedly using the Service’s name to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement released on Thursday, the DSS disclosed that the former operative, who was dismissed from service for misconduct, has been engaging in unscrupulous and fraudulent activities, posing as a serving officer to extort money from individuals under various false pretences.
According to the Service, Donald has no affiliation whatsoever with the DSS and any claims or representations linking him to the organisation are entirely false.
The agency warned the public to be wary of dealing with him or anyone claiming to represent the DSS outside of official channels.
The DSS also urged citizens to verify any suspicious communication or request purportedly from its officials before taking any action, noting that such scams not only exploit the public but also undermine the integrity of the Service.
“The public is hereby advised to desist from transacting any business or making any payment to the said Barry Donald or his associates.
The Service will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found colluding with him in these illegal acts,” the statement read in part.
The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and transparency, assuring Nigerians that measures are being taken to track down the impostor and prevent further exploitation of the public in its name.
