The Federal Government has slashed the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals across Nigeria, reducing the price per session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 under a new subsidy scheme.

The initiative, described as a lifeline for patients battling kidney-related diseases, is aimed at easing both financial and physical suffering while expanding access to universal health coverage.

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, implementation of the pilot scheme is already underway in eleven federal tertiary health institutions nationwide, including Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, and others.

The government also dismissed claims that the Northwest was excluded, stressing that all regions are covered and more hospitals will be added in due course.

“This is a deliberate step to ensure no Nigerian is left behind in accessing affordable healthcare,” the Ministry stated.
