UN Chief Hails Dawn Of New Energy Era As Gateway To A Better Future
In what has been described as a pivotal moment in the global climate conversation, UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a powerful address, calling the shift to renewable energy “an immense opportunity for humanity.”
Speaking at what was tagged “watch party”, Guterres painted a hopeful picture amid climate crises, declaring the fossil fuel age to be “flailing and failing,” and urging nations to embrace the dawn of a cleaner, fairer energy era.
“This is our moment,” he said. “A chance to supercharge the transition to renewables, boost economies, improve public health, ensure energy security, and provide affordable power for all.”
The address coincides with the release of a new UN report titled “Seizing the Moment of Opportunity”, which outlines how renewables, electrification, and energy efficiency can power a just and swift transition.
Backed by global experts and UN agencies, the report highlights the plunging costs of clean technologies—with over 90% of new renewable projects now cheaper than fossil fuel alternatives.
As the world grapples with rising temperatures and energy instability, the UN is urging urgent investment in sustainable energy systems, warning that delay will come at a far greater cost.
With wind and solar power surging, and international cooperation on the rise, the UN’s message is clear: the future is green and the time to act is now.
