Africa’s biggest women’s football tournament is set for a historic new chapter as the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 kicks off in just 30 days, featuring an expanded 16-team format and serving as a pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
With just 30 days to go, excitement is building for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026, which kicks off on 26 July in Rabat with hosts Morocco taking on Kenya.
The 14th edition of Africa’s premier women’s football competition marks a major milestone, expanding from 12 to 16 teams for the first time as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) intensifies investment in the women’s game across the continent.
The tournament will feature 16 nations, including defending champions Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire and hosts Morocco, with matches taking place across five CAF-approved venues in Rabat and Casablanca.
Beyond the battle for continental supremacy, the competition will also determine Africa’s representatives at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.
The four quarter-final winners will qualify automatically, while the remaining quarter-finalists will enter the World Cup play-off pathway.
CAF says the expanded format and growing competitiveness of African women’s football are expected to make Morocco 2026 one of the most fiercely contested editions in the tournament’s history.
