Nigerian Military Rescues Scores, Neutralises Terrorists in Nationwide Security Operations
Nigeria’s military says sustained offensives across the country are weakening terrorist and criminal networks, with dozens of kidnapped victims rescued, suspects arrested and large caches of weapons recovered in a week of coordinated operations.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, troops operating between 19 and 25 June recorded major successes in counter-terrorism, anti-kidnapping and anti-banditry missions across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-South and South-East.
In the North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued abducted women and children, received the surrender of 27 terrorists and their family members, rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight hijacked vehicles after repelling terrorist attacks in Borno State.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA also disrupted terrorist activities in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina and Kano states, arresting several suspects, neutralising bandits and recovering firearms, motorcycles, and military uniforms allegedly used to impersonate security personnel.
In the North-Central, troops intercepted suspected terrorists, foiled illegal arms movement and neutralised kidnappers during separate operations in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi and Ogun states.
Operations in the South-South dealt a blow to crude oil theft, with security forces intercepting more than 200,000 litres of suspected illegally refined and adulterated petroleum products, rescuing kidnap victims and arresting suspects linked to abductions.
Meanwhile, in the South-East, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralised three suspected IPOB/ESN fighters in Anambra State and recovered weapons, improvised explosive devices, police uniforms and communication devices.
The statement said the operations reflect the country’s continued commitment to restoring peace, dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the country.
